Dallas/Fort Worth: world’s first free-standing emergency room on an airport

On Friday, the Texas airport opened what is the world’s first free-standing emergency room on an airport’s grounds, serving passengers, crew members and airport staff with 24/7/365 service, as well as the general public near the airport’s south entrance. The facility also employs physicians trained in travel medicine, who have experience in infectious disease and travel-related illnesses.

The company expects that 65,000 airport employees—who spend the most time in the area and often work overnight shifts—will make up 60 to 70 percent of the business. But it’s already proved crucial for travelers, too

Given that in medical emergencies linked to flying, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) (a blood clot in the legs), time to care is a crucial factor, it’s notable that this is something that the new DFW facility shortens.
