Cheyyur is considered basically for its proximity to two main highways — GST and ECR. The disadvantage, however, would be the distance. Without a dedicated expressway, it may take up to two hours to reach the proposed airport from the town.
There is a good news for the residents living in and around Cheyyur area as the East Coast Road (ECR) is likely to emerge as the entry point to the city’s second airport. The Tamil Nadu government was looking for a site that could handle international flights and the authorities have finally zeroed in the Cheyyur that is located 100 km south of Chennai, reported the Times of India.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to move international departures and arrivals to the second airport.
