Santo Domingo: launch of renovation works at Las Américas airport

This plan shows the commitment of VINCI Airports to offering safer infrastructures and quality of service to enhance the passenger experience in its airports.

The investment portfolio includes a new cargo terminal, a new commercial building for services and offices; the remodeling and redistribution of the parking lot and the central atrium, the leveling of the runway safety strip, among others.

The works include the renovation of the central atrium of the passenger terminal, which will have an area of 2,595 square meters with a wide view of the airport runway, in which the security and migration services will be relocated and modernized.

This renewed area will allow the passenger to visually anticipate and enjoy after the security check of a recreational space that includes duty free shops, restaurants and bars. Additionally, a new flight information system with high technology screens will be installed, providing a high comfort waiting area with new resources such as «last minute shops» and «call to gate» in accordance with current international standards.

The cargo area of the airport will be transformed into a «Cargo City» with an independent entrance and parking, commercial building and new administrative offices.

KC Airport Project Now Expected to Be Complete in 2022

The developer for the new single-terminal Kansas City International Airport is now projecting an opening date of October 2022, nearly a year later than originally anticipated.

The Kansas City Star reports that officials with Edgemoor Infrastructure and Real Estate told the Kansas City Council of its new plans Thursday. Edgemoor was chosen for the project that Kansas City voters approved in 2017.

The project is expected to cost up to $1.4 billion. The original project cost was estimated at $964 million in 2014. Inflation is responsible for part of the increase, but the new plan also accounts for 39 gates instead of the original plan’s 35.

Airlines, not taxpayers, are responsible for funding the construction project.
