Everyone knows Chinese consumers overwhelmingly prefer to buy luxury abroad, but many assume that it’s solely because of the huge price gap between goods in China and those in other countries thanks to China’s high tariffs. According to a new survey by the Chinese-language version of Fortune, lower prices are actually just part of the picture when it comes to their major reasons for buying abroad.
Fortune’s report released yesterday states that 64 percent of Chinese luxury consumers prefer to buy abroad rather than domestically. This number comes after a study by Bain which found that around 70 percent of all luxury items purchased by Chinese consumers were bought either abroad or through daigou channels.
Their number one reason was—unsurprisingly—price. A total of 88.9 percent of respondents cited this as why they bought abroad, and it’s not tough to see why given the fact that luxury goods can be up to 70 percent more expensive on the mainland than elsewhere.
But it’s not just price that’s affecting purchase behavior. Fear of China’s rampant fakes is almost equally important: a total of 83.5 percent said they bought abroad because they knew they would have access to genuine goods. Por otro lado, se ha abierto una nueva tienda de moda, con las marcas GAP & Superdry (marcas ya presentes en otros aeropuertos de la red). El operador es Dufry Islas Canarias. El nuevo establecimiento, con una superficie de más de 200 m2, está situado también en la zona de embarque.

Heathrow still tops for transatlantic flights.
A closer look at which airports in Europe are the leading providers of weekly seat capacity this summer shows that London Heathrow is by some distance number one. The UK airport offers almost 80% more seats across the ‘pond’ than any other airport, with Paris CDG and Frankfurt vying for second place. A total of 67 European airports offer at least one weekly flight this summer to a destination in either Canada or the USA.

Norwegian named the ‘World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline’.

- The airline was also awarded ‘Best Low Cost Airline in Europe’ for third consecutive year
Norwegian was today named the ‘World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline’ by the renowned SkyTrax World Airline Awards, the leading international airline rating system as voted on by the travelling public.
Norwegian was also named ‘Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe’ for the third consecutive year according to travellers, who evaluated more than 200 airlines worldwide.
Norwegian has been operating low cost, long haul flights from the UK since July 2014 with routes to New York, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. The airline also has a network of 28 European destinations on offer from London Gatwick, Birmingham and Edinburgh airports.
Norwegian’s CEO Bjørn Kjos, said: «I’m extremely proud and humble to receive these important recognitions on behalf of everybody working at Norwegian. It is the third year in a row that we’ve been voted ‘Best Low-Cost in Europe’ and it is great news that we’ve also been voted the ‘Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline’ in the World for the first time, only two years after launching our long-haul service.»
The other nominees in the category ‘Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe’ were EasyJet and Germanwings. In the category ‘Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline’ were JetStar and AirAsiaX.
