Goa International Airport To Start Serving Alcohol Soon

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has confirmed its plan to introduce alcohol in the menus of the Goa International Airport reports the Times of India. The permission to serve alcohol had been sought for two outlets on the airport. Bhupesh Negi, the Airport Director said that this was being done to enhance the passenger experience at the airport and bring it on international standards.

“Five food stalls have been launched already and by December -end all the food and beverage outlets will be operational,” said Negi while speaking to the Times of India. “Low cost food for taxi operators and airline staff members will also be opened outside the airport terminal.” The AAI will also get Rs.4 crore on a monthly basis as a concession fee from the revamped travel, food and retail companies at the airport.

“An application to serve alcohol has been made to the local excise department. AAI will go as per the local regulations of the state, which will decide what kind of excise licence can be given to an airport,” said K L Sharma, executive director, commercial, at AAI headquarters. The plan according to Negi is to set up 36 food and beverage outlets at domestic and international terminals which is a big step forward as there are only two food stalls and one restaurant available currently.

TFS bags contract to operate,manage F&B outlets at Goa airport

Travel Food Services (TFS), which is into travel-focused food and beverages (F&B) and retail business, has bagged master concessionaire contract for operating and managing F&B outlets at the Goa airport, a senior airport official said Tuesday. The company, which currently operates more than 280 outlets across airports, railway stations and highways, spread across 19 cities, won the mandate after competitive bidding.

«TFS has won the contract as a master concessionaire for retail and food and beverages for Goa airport at a cost of Rs 3.98 crore per month,» Goa airport director CH Negi told reporters in Vasco. As part of the contract, the company will revamp the existing F&B facility, he said.
It will also invite reputed food and beverages brands, both domestic and international, to set up their outlets at the airport.

Negi said that the company has already opened 13 outlets, adding that all the outlets, including food courts, will be operational by the year-end. «Revamping the food and beverages facility at the Goa airport would be an exciting opportunity for the company,» said Sunil Kapur, chairman, TFS.

The company has major concessions across key airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru, he added.

India: New food and beverage agency for Goa airport

After the previous attempt to revamp the dining options at Goa International Airport hit an air pocket, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has made a fresh attempt to appoint a new agency to set up food and beverage services at the state’s only international airport. The new agency is expected to be in place over the next six months, said AAI officers.
The AAI has approached five agencies, who bid for the earlier tender for grant of concession to develop, market, set up, operate, maintain and manage the food and beverage outlets at Goa International Airport.
After the contract for the existing restaurant, Port Lounge, expired in March 31 this year, AAI had awarded the contract to a new consortium. The consortium of Seven Hills Buildcon Private Limited and Kamat Hotel (India) Ltd was granted the concession to operate restaurants and eateries at the integrated airport terminal but after being given the letter of intent award (LOIA), the consortium failed to comply with the conditions of the LOIA.
To quicken the process, AAI has asked the companies which qualified on a technical basis in January this year, to resubmit financial bids by July 24. Seven Hills Buildcon Private Limited and Kamat Hotel (India) Ltd have been barred from participating in the process, sources said.
According to AAI officials, Seven Hills Buildcon Private Limited and Kamat Hotel (India) Ltd have approached the lower courts, Vasco, after AAI issued a show-cause notice to the consortium and scrapped the award letter.

For years, passengers have been critical of the existing catering services that consist of just one restaurant and a food stall for the seven million people who travelled through the airport last year.
