New airport project in Saudi Arabia’s Jazan city

The project aims to establish the King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz Airport in Jazan taking in consideration the significance of the region and inline with the Saudi leadership’s vision to provide job opportunities and investments to develop human and natural resources.

With a budget of 2.5 billion Saudi riyals, the airport project in Jazan will be an integral step in developing the area’s infrastructure to serve citizens.

Strategically located at the Red Sea, the project’s new location lies 30 km north of the city, will be carried on an area of 5.000.000 square meters.

Not only it enjoys a large area that will allow its expansion in the future, but also lies mid-way between Jazan and the Jazan Economic City, which aims to expand energy and manufacturing industries in the kingdom.

The marine nature in the surroundings will be used to inspire the interior design of the airport’s main hall.

Yantai International Airport: new Terminal 2

A consortium led by the China Southwest Architectural Design and Research Institute has won the planning and design contract for Phase II expansion of Yantai Penglai International Airport in Shandong Province.

The consortium includes the Shanghai Civil Aviation New Era Airport Design and Research Institute and Hong-Kong-based Aedas Group.

Yantai Penglai, which serves Yantai city in Shandong province, processed 6.5 million passengers in 2017 through its 80,000 m2 terminal, which was designed to serve up to eight million passengers per year. Phase II expansion includes a second runway and a new 180,000 m2 Terminal 2 (T2) to serve up to 23 million passengers per year (2030). Scheduled to open in 2021, the new  building will be located south of existing Terminal 1.

And with a planned expansion to over 200,000 square metres, its capacity will rise to 34 million passengers per annum by 2040.

Ghana: commissions construction of phase2 of Kumasi International Airport

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the construction of the second phase of the Kumasi International Airport project.

Present to grace the occasion was the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other government officials.The 1,981 m runway will be extended to 2,320 m runway and taxi link as well as the construction of a new ultra-modern terminal building with a capacity of 1,000 people.

Similarly, there will be an additional construction of two new apron parking stands of 17,500 m2 comprising of a car park, access road, security fence, substation and provision of bulk utility services.

The US $78.2m project is expected to be completed within the period of 24 months. The project contract has been awarded to Messrs Contracta Construction, UK Limited and expected to create 1, 200 direct and indirect jobs in the country.

Yesterday it was known that the airport will change its name to Kumasi Kofi Annan – Kwabena Agyepong Airport.
